Yearning for the mine

Any creative knows that inspiration can dry up and you can end up feeling pretty bummed out during a creativity drought. I can usually work my way through it by searching for inspiration in my library of art books. If that DOESN'T work i can sometimes read or go for a walk and try to tune into the world: Move through spaces trying to be hyper awsre of my surroundings visually. Even this EXERCISE didn’t help me with my last dry spell. In an almost desperate attempt to kickstart a drawing i dug up some old sketchbooks. It turned out that mining these THINGS WAS a great idea! First of all, it was a pleasant nostalgic trip! Looking at these pages brought me right back to the years they were drawn. I found a bunch of ideas that i photographed, filed and plan to develop now.

The one i am sharing came from a sketchbook from 2002. I was working working as a coffee roaster at the time. Once i got my stuff ORGANIZED in the morning the process had fourteen minute gaps so i started having sketchbooks and fantasy novels with me all the time. While i dont quite remember the direct thought process for the sketch, i do know that my whole life i’ve wrestled with my interest in video games. I often feel guilty about the time i’ve dpent playing them even though they entertain me. A thing i still feel guilt over. Anyway, here is the sketch and also a drawing i recently completed based on it:
